Head Coach - Loghlen Rickard - Fall 2024

Loghlen’s sailing journey began in Dublin, where he quickly became a standout Optimist sailor, achieving the top rank in Ireland’s Junior Fleet and securing a national title. He also made his mark in school sailing, winning a regional championship in 2014. After transitioning from the Optimist class, Loghlen excelled in the Laser Radial (now ILCA 6), where he was one of only four boys selected for the ISA Youth Olympic Pathway Academy. Here, he won the Under-17 National Championship, placed 24th in both the Youth World and European Championships, and claimed the North American Youth Radial Champion title in 2017. His versatility as a sailor extended to various other classes, including the 29er, i420, Elliott 6m, Firefly, and Waszp.

In college, Loghlen was a key helm in the University College Dublin sailing team, contributing to three consecutive college national championships and winning the inaugural Student Match Racing National Championship. He graduated from University College Dublin in May 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with Data Science.

As a coach, Loghlen began at age 16 in Ireland. During his college years, he spent three summers as the Laser race coach for Columbia Yacht Club in Chicago and two years coaching in Northport, Long Island. He is currently the Head Coach at Larchmont Yacht Club, where he has led their high school program for the past year.

Loghlen is excited to begin his first Inter-collegiate Sailing Association coaching job with the Columbia University Sailing team and is looking forward to working with the team to build a cohesive unit that consistently competes at the top level of collegiate sailing, both in MAISA and nationally.
